Seaweed is a type of marine plant that has various species, some of which can be consumed directly, require prior processing, or are toxic and unfit for consumption. The lack of public knowledge regarding which types of seaweed are safe to eat can pose health risks such as poisoning or digestive disorders. This study aims to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) to assist users in identifying edible seaweed types using the Simple Multi-Attribute Rating Technique (SMART) method. The study applies four main decision-making criteria: color, texture, shape, and size of the seaweed. The system development follows the waterfall model, which includes requirements analysis, system design, implementation, and testing phases. The results show that the developed system can effectively provide recommendations on edible seaweed types based on the final scores calculated through the SMART method. The system has been tested and demonstrated good accuracy in classifying seaweed types according to the specified criteria. In conclusion, this decision support system can serve as a helpful tool for both the general public and researchers in identifying and selecting safe seaweed for consumption. Moreover, the system is expected to contribute to the sustainable preservation and utilization of marine resources.
